New cards

I have just listed these new leafy hand printed card packs to my Etsy shop. Do pop along and take a look!

A surprise gift!

During my trip to Bristol last week I went to visit my lovely friend (and fellow blogger) Sarah. We had a good catch up and ate delicious spaghetti in the garden, making the most of the summer evening (until the insects decided it was time for us to return indoors). It was super nice to see her in her lovely home and I was particularly excited to meet her new cat Ellie, she's a real beauty as you can see.

To top it all off Sarah gave me my belated birthday present. This beautiful Scandinavian inspired hand stitched tea towel. Isn't it lovely!

It's so nice to get handmade presents, it really makes you feel special to get something someone has spent time and effort on just for you. Thank you Sarah! xx

Sunshine in Bristol

We've just returned from a lovely few days back in Bristol. The sun very much had his hat on and without the sea breeze it was pretty toasty! We spent the time relaxing in the sun, catching up with friends and visiting some of our favourite haunts. This included a beautiful sunny walk at Ashton Court, where I got a little snap happy with the camera! I'm particularly fond of the woodland paths where the light through the trees is so magical.

Up until now my glass has been dotted around the gallery, but last week we decided to give it a little home of it's own. We condensed down my textile work and used the remaining space to make a small display of my glassware. It was really nice to see it all group together and has inspired me to crack on finish the rest of the pieces I have sitting on the shelf. I'm even more motivated as I have since sold a couple of the pieces so now need to get busy and fill up the gaps!

Hope you're all enjoying this beautiful sunshine......at last!!!!

As promised, here are the finished articles from my previous post plus another earlier piece that I have only just had chance to photograph. The first is my favourite so far, I'm really happy with it. It took quite some time to sandblast so I had to have my patient hat on, but that also meant it was even more rewarding to see the finished article.

Also I'm very excited to say that I now have my very own page on the Malcolm Sutcliffe Glass Studio website! It only has a few pieces on there currently, but more will follow soon.

Happy Friday everyone!

Fancy a cup?

Here's a little picture I've just made inspired by vintage coffee pots and cups! Thinking it might make quite a nice card. What do you think?

Work in progress...

Oh the rain, the rain......what a summer we're having. In order to distract myself from this unseasonable weather I have been busily working away on some new designs. Here are two bowls I have prepared ready for sandblasting (I thought it would be nice to show you some of the process rather than just the finished pieces).

I have blown the bowls with colour on the inside and then masked off the areas where I want to retain the colour. The exposed areas will then be blasted away leaving frosted clear glass. I have been experimenting with layering my designs, so both these pieces will include areas of frosted clear glass, frosted colour and clear colour. It's a bit tricky to get my head round sometimes as I have to work in reverse, but so far the results have been quite successful.

Right......to the sandblaster!! Pics of the finished pieces to follow soon.

Something nice

As the weather is determined to put a dampener on things, I thought I would share with you some pictures of something lovely. I managed to take some snaps of this beautiful hydrangea during a brief moment of sunshine a couple of days ago. I was never very fond of them when I was younger but in the last few years I have developed a real love for them, especially when they are still opening out like this one. I'm a sucker for flowers and I don't think you can get much more beautiful this.
