Do pop in if you're in the area, it's a great (and pretty rare) chance to get to see the glass being made. I'm happy to say that it will just be Malcolm demonstrating, my skills are not quite up to scratch for public scrutiny just yet.....give me about 20 years! :o)

Studio

I was thinking the other day that I have been blogging all these pictures of shiny finished pieces of pretty glass without any reference to where it actually comes from. So I thought I'd share with you a little glimpse of the glass blowing studio where all the magic happens......

The studio looks a bit on the grey side so I included an image from the outside looking in. It's looks so pretty now the wisteria is coming into bloom.

I love the smell of the studio, I know that sounds a bit odd but having grown up with it being my parents place of work it has a very nostalgic smell of burnt paper and wood that makes me feels at home.

It always strikes me how burnt and dirty all the glass making tools look compared to the pristine glass that comes out at the end. It's hard to believe these blackened instruments are used to shape and manipulate the glass.

My lesson this morning was quite a challenging one. I'm now finding that as I'm improving things are starting to feel more difficult and my frustration levels are increasing, which is only natural I suppose. I persisted though and managed to finish on a positive note, ready for another day.....

Monday blues

It's grey and drizzly here so in an effort to eradicate the inevitable Monday blues I have taken some snaps of my latest creations! I'm really happy with them and have lots of ideas for variations on the same theme so expect to see more in the next couple of weeks.

I had a lovely weekend enjoying the sunshine, digging on the allotment and beachy walks (I even had a wee dip in the sea......brrrrr!) We also went to see these guys play on Saturday eve. It was a very intimate gig and such a talented pair, her voice was captivating. I would definitely recommend seeing them if they come round your way.

New cards

I have just added these pretty hand printed note cards to my etsy shop. I wanted to design something that captured the feeling of spring. I haven't done any printing for a while, so it was fun to mix up the colours and spend a happy afternoon printing away. They come in packs four (one of each colour) and wrapped in a pretty ribbon so would make a perfect gift!

As well as being busy making, this weekend I found time to get out and about to catch some bluebells in full bloom. A friend and I took her little boy to the gardens at Enys to see the stunning display, sadly my pictures don't quite do it justice, but it was beautiful!!

Transformed

I had a few pieces that had been sitting around since September when I had my first proper go at glass blowing and they have proved to be perfect to use for experimenting with sandblasting designs into the glass. I'm really pleased with the result, so much so that they have gone straight out for sale in the shop!

It was a bit tricky to take good photo's but they look their best with light shining through them. My skills are starting to improve now that I am getting chance to practice a few days a week, so hopefully I'll soon be able to blow some more refined and delicate shapes to work with, as these ones still have quite a bit of weight to them :o)

To see the transformation from what they originally looked like see day three of Septembers post.

May day

May has sprung itself upon us with a much need outburst of sunshine and it's turned my mood right around. I was starting to feel quite blue with all the grey skies and relentless rain of the last few days. Well done may, I like you very much indeed!!

Happy month everyone xxx
